Cut protection is not impact protection

They are two separate hazards and two separate ratings. A Cut D glove handles the sharp edge. It does nothing at all for the pinch, the crush or the falling load — and on demolition, steel fixing and rigging, the back of the hand is what gets hit.

Under EN 388:2016, impact protection is a separate optional test marked with a P after the abrasion, cut, tear and puncture figures. If a glove is sold as impact protective, that P should be on it.

Choosing between this and the Cut D glove

The Cut D glove is the everyday, high-volume, issue-to-the-whole-site glove — thinner, more dexterous, cheaper by the carton. This one is for the specific tasks where hands are exposed to impact: breaking out, handling steel, rigging and lifting, plant maintenance. Most crews carry both.

We are confirming the current certificate with the manufacturer. Ask us before you standardise a crew on it.

Cut 5 or Cut D?

Two different scales. Level 5 is the older EN 388:2003 coup-test scale; A to F is the current EN ISO 13997 scale. A glove certified today should carry both.

Do they suit fine work?

Less than a plain Cut D glove — impact guards cost you some dexterity. That is the trade.
