Structural Bracing Plywood 4mm | Timber Wall Frame Bracing

      $19.80

4mm structural bracing plywood for timber wall frames, in four sheet sizes to suit 2.4 m and 2.7 m walls at 450 mm and 600 mm stud centres. Nailed over the studs and plates, each sheet turns a bay of the frame into a stiff panel that resists racking under wind load, with no notched-in diagonals and no strap tensioning. Sold by the sheet, with trade pack quantities available.

      • 4mm Structural Plywood thin, light sheet bracing for timber-framed walls
      • Widths Matched to Stud Centres 900mm covers two bays at 450mm centres, 1200mm covers two bays at 600mm centres, so the vertical edges land on a stud
      • Lengths Matched to Wall Height 2440mm for 2.4 m frames, 2745mm for 2.7 m frames
      • One-Person Handling a 4mm sheet goes up on the frame without a second pair of hands
      • Faster Than Diagonal Bracing no notching studs, no tensioning straps, no cutting in

      What bracing ply does

Wind pushes sideways on a wall. A bare timber frame is a row of rectangles, and under side load a rectangle racks over into a parallelogram. Plywood nailed to the studs and plates locks each bay into a stiff panel that holds its shape and carries the load down into the floor or slab.

It does the same job as diagonal metal strap or let-in timber bracing, and on most frames it does it faster.

      More features

      • Cross-Laminated Veneers alternating grain directions give strength both ways across the sheet, which is what holds a frame square
      • Trade Quantities single sheets for a repair, packs for a whole frame
      • Collect or Local Delivery click & collect from Jamisontown (Penrith) or local delivery; too long for parcel freight

      Compliance & standards

      Fixing it right

A bracing wall's rating comes from the fixing as much as the sheet. Nail type and length, spacing around the sheet edges and into the intermediate studs, edge distance, and the hold-downs at each end of the panel all decide what the wall can actually carry. Fix to the bracing schedule on your plans or your engineer's details — for conventional framing that schedule is generally worked out under AS 1684 — and get it right before the frame inspection, because bracing is checked there.

Keep vertical joints on studs, keep edge nails back from the very edge of the sheet, and do not substitute a thinner sheet or a wider nail spacing than the schedule calls for.

      FAQs

      900 or 1200 wide?

Match the width to your stud spacing so the vertical sheet edges land on studs: 900mm for 450mm centres, 1200mm for 600mm centres.

      2440 or 2745 long?

      2440mm for a standard 2.4 m wall frame, 2745mm for a 2.7 m frame.

Is 4mm enough for my bracing?

That depends on the bracing design for your frame. Sheet thickness, stud spacing and the nailing pattern all feed into the rating, so go by your plans or your engineer's bracing schedule.
